JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Mechanic – Electrical & Instrumentation (E&I) is responsible for installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical, instrumentation, and control systems in a renewable diesel production facility. This role supports safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations by ensuring all electrical and automation systems function within regulatory and operational standards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Installing, maintaining, testing, evaluating, and repairing various electrical components and systems including low voltage automation systems, medium voltage motor control circuits, and high voltage (<15kV) power distribution systems.
  • Test electrical systems and equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Troubleshoot and repair or replace faulty wiring, motors, switches, breakers, and related components.
  • Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize equipment failures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, standards and safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with other maintenance and production staff to resolve electrical issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work.
  • Install, calibrate, and maintain field instrumentation including: pressure, temperature, level, and flow transmitters.
  • Troubleshoot and repair control valves, actuators, switches, analyzers, and PLC-based control systems.
  • Interpret P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, and instrumentation datasheets.
  • Perform loop checks and function tests during shutdowns, turnarounds, and new installations.
  • Maintain accurate calibration and instrumentation records.
  • Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of DCS, PLC, SIS, and SCADA systems.
  • Monitor control system alarms, process deviations, and equipment performance.
  • Support plant upgrades, modifications, and system optimization initiatives.
  • Follow all refinery safety policies including lockout/tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, hot work permits.
  • Participate in hazard assessments, toolbox talks, and safety meetings.
  • Comply with environmental, reliability, and operational standards.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation.
  • May require overtime or on-call work to handle emergency repairs.
 
MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without sponsorship.
  • Exposure to high voltage, noise, and industrial equipment.
  • Diploma or Associate Degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, or a related technical field
  • 3–7 years of I&E experience in an industrial environment
  • Strong knowledge of industrial electrical systems (low voltage and high voltage)
  • Proficiency in calibration and maintenance of industrial instruments
  • Familiarity with PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), DCS platforms (Honeywell, Emerson), and safety systems
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and manuals
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills
  • Ability to pass refinery safety training and meet physical requirements (standing, climbing, lifting, confined spaces, etc.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Certifications: ISA, NCCER, Comp Ex, or similar.
  • Experience with refinery turnaround/shutdown maintenance.
  • Experience in maintenance in petrochemical or renewables refinery.
  • Knowledge of hazardous area classifications (ATEX, NEC Class I Div I/II).
  • Experience with SAP or a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
  • Certified Maintenance Reliability Technician (CMRT) or willing to acquire certification.
  • Predictive Maintenance and/or Precision Maintenance Certifications.
  • Experience in HVAC maintenance a plus.
